The Spence White Service Award recognizes exemplary service provided to the INFOhio community. Spence White was an ITC Director who recognized very early how the Ohio Education Computer Network could support INFOhio’s vision of providing equal access to information resources to all Ohio students and teachers. The recipient demonstrates a dedication to the vision of INFOhio and outstanding support for the delivery of INFOhio services.
We are happy to share that this year’s Spence White Service Award recipients are Judy Benner, META Solutions, Janah Shumaker, INFOhio Technical Services Team, and Terri Fredericka, retiring INFOhio Director.
Judy is the INFOhio Library Support Specialist at META Solutions in Marion. In her role she is committed to helping others provide full services for automating library collections, conducting training, and especially advocating for school libraries. As one of her nominators shared, “Judy Benner stands out as the exemplar of a profoundly dedicated and exceedingly competent service-oriented professional. Judy Benner not only exemplifies the goals of INFOhio, she embodies them on a daily basis.”
Janah is part of the INFOhio Technical Services Team. She has energetically taken on the task of co-facilitator in rolling out BLUEcloud, INFOhio’s new library software, while providing support, encouragement and training to library staff through early implementation.
Her nominator shared, “Janah is truly qualified for this service award displaying the work ethics and leadership attributes of Spence White in her everyday dealings with her team and the libraries she supports at the state level, as well as when working with SirsiDynix, our software partner.”
Terri, who was unaware that she would be receiving this award, has led INFOhio for the past 25 years, becoming a much beloved and admired advocate initially for library automation and related services, and subsequently for an array of digital teaching and learning resources. She is retiring in June and leaves behind enormous shoes to fill.
“Terri is the only Director INFOhio has ever known. She has been there through all of the war stories, the successes, the lobbying, the more challenging days, and throughout it all she has maintained her abiding commitment to assuring equitable access to learning and resources for Ohio’s students,” her nominator noted.
The awards were presented during the virtual Management Council Membership meeting on May 8, 2020.
We thank them for their valuable contributions made to powerfully impact the lives of Ohio’s learners, teachers, and leaders. Please join us in congratulating Judy, Janah, and Terri!
