Ohio’s ITCs Stand Ready to Help Rural Districts Optimize Data for the NCRERN Program

The Management Council and Ohio’s Information Technology Centers (ITCs) will work closely with selected rural districts to provide the district data necessary to implement a successful program with the National Center for Rural Education Research Networks. As the program’s crucial foundational element, the data will be used to pinpoint patterns and seek solutions to address challenges so often faced in Ohio’s rural districts.

Harvard University’s Center for Education Policy & Research (CEPR) has been awarded a five-year, $10 million grant from the Institute of Education Services at the US Department of Education to launch the National Center for Rural Education Research Networks(NCRERN). Jointly created by CEPR and the Ohio Department of Education, the center supports a network of up to 30 rural school districts in Ohio to apply Proving Ground’s continuous improvement model to address the challenges of chronic absenteeism, college readiness, and college enrollment.

Once accepted into the program, NCRERN will support the district with data analytics, peer networking, strategic advice, and hands-on assistance. Working in partnership with the district and the district’s ITC, NCRERN will give district leaders insight into their district’s data patterns regarding chronic absenteeism, college readiness, and college enrollment. ITCs will securely clean, standardize, and transfer district data for optimal analysis by NCRERN, resulting in optimal benefit for the district.

To be eligible for the program, traditional public districts, community schools, and STEM districts must be identified as rural by either Ohio’s school district typology or the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) locale codes. Review Proving Ground’s list of eligible Ohio districts to determine district qualification. Rural districts eligible to participate in the NCRERN program must complete the online application by April 30, 2019.
